Providing Pastoral Training

Dear Friends,

A number of years ago, Dr. Ernest Larson, an ophthalmologist, made several medical mission trips to French-speaking Africa. It was during those visits that he became aware of the large number of pastors and church leaders, particularly in rural areas, who had little or no formal training.

In 2006, in response to this need, he gathered a team of former missionaries and African leaders who shared his concern, and together they laid the foundation for the Transafrican Education Network (TEN). Since then, TEN has trained thousands of pastors and Christian leaders throughout French-speaking Africa. Last year alone, 21,000 men and women participated in the training.  As a member of the board, I have had the privilege of visiting several of the countries in which TEN is serving and seeing first-hand the remarkable impact the ministry is having.

The vision of TEN is to see believers in churches in Francophone Africa mature in Christ under the leadership of pastors and godly leaders who have been given instruction for right living so the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed (2 Tim 3:16-17).

All the material is written and taught by highly trained African men and women. The cost of the four days of training is kept as low as possible, at $22.00 per person, so that participants from poor rural areas can attend.

We would like to provide scholarships so that more pastors and church leaders can attend these training sessions.

Sincerely,

Alec D. Brooks

Testimonies

“My wife Diane and I just attended the seminar on the role of a pastor in the holistic development of his family and his church. We are going to use what we have learned for the development of ourselves and our church.”

Pastor Daniel Rutegibigeni, Rwanda.

I just attended training on pastoral ministry and doctrine and took discipleship last year. At the end of this training, I commit myself to try to live a life that reflects Jesus’ life, to share what I have learned with my community members, and to make more disciples of Jesus.”

Monique Nyiranzakizwanimana, Rwanda

“TEN provides a great opportunity to refresh the servants of the Lord Jesus Christ in our city. Through its teachings there is a clear improvement in the ministry in our parishes and Churches. Our pastors, elders, and deacons have been challenged about the task that is theirs: to watch over themselves and over their flocks. We take this ministry to heart, and we remain firm in our commitment to support it for the good of the work of the Lord Jesus Christ in our city.

May God be glorified!”
