Serving the Needs of Children in Senegal

October 2016

When civil war came to the village of Bourofaye, Senegal, half of the people fled. Now the war has ended, and Roger and Rachel Sambou, who live there, have been encouraging those who left to return.

Rachel (Renich) Sambou graduated from Bethany College of Missions in 1992 and went to Africa as a Bethany missionary in 1998. After a year in Ghana, she moved to Senegal, where she met Pastor Roger Sambou, the leader of African Revival Ministries. They were married in 2006 and now with a small team oversee four churches in the area, a clinic, and a ministry among street boys in the city of Zinginchor. In 2009 they began an orphanage in Bourofaye, a few miles away, that cares for 15 children.

Because of the lack of good, consistent, and affordable education in the village, many children did not attend school, so Ecole Bethel was begun last year. Now many of the children of Bourofaye and the surrounding villages are receiving schooling in their own language as well as being exposed to English and Spanish. Most important, they experience God’s love for them through the teaching of the Bible and Christian teachers.

The school began with three teachers and thirty-six students in kindergarten and first grade. This year, they have added several more teachers and three more grades. As a result, they need to increase the number of classrooms. They have land available but don’t have the finances to build.

We are raising funds to help Rachel and Roger with this project. Will you join us?

Sincerely,

Alec D. Brooks, President
